The solo exhibition Mimesis by Tulis invites us to enter the artist's deepest intimacies. Revealing what’s underneath the layers of protection; she allows us in, re-examining the paradox of boundaries: what’s private and what’s public, inside and outside, self and not self. Her universe mingles dreams, memories, despair and hope. Intertwined with her inspirations from Classical Antiquity, Medieval and Renaissance periods, are close observations and a profound reverence for nature. The exhibition will be set in a magical green setting in Watermael-Boitsfort in Brussels: an old castle a la Villa Medici.
Mimesis includes a wide range of artworks by the multidisciplinary artist: paintings - amongst which anamorphic female landscapes lounge - will be accompanied by sculptural works, small sensual drawings, bathers, saints, self portrait gum prints, and poetry, in a peaceful and soothing setting that provides perfect context for the work. This show is a celebration of the cyclical and voluptuous elements of nature, intended to bring people together, slowing down in order to understand oneself, others, and the Earth we dwell on. As a mirror, Tulis' works question our perception of life and reality. Mimesis lets us be enchanted once again.
Throughout the exhibition, a series of events will be organised : live music, poetry night, performances, yoga and meditation sessions and chilling in the garden.
This project has been made in partnership with Marc Jacobs and Hortense Elseghem.
